| The Eco-Town Project refers to those projects needed to build a resource circulating society "targeting finally for no-waste (zero-emission) through reutilizing the wastes of one industry as the raw materials of another industry". The City of Kitakyushu has established the "Kitakyushu Eco-Town Plan" (recognized by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Ministry of the Environment) as a basis for promoting environment/recycling industries and has embarked on its implementation in the Hibikinada Area of Wakamatsu ward. In promoting this Project, the "Kitakyushu City Conference on Environmental and Industrial Promotions" which is composed of business, academic and government sectors, has determined the basic direction of activities and has developed a unique local policy by integrating both the environmental and industrial promotion policies. The "Eco-Town Project Second Stage Plan" was formulated in order to push forward the Project under a new strategy in August 2002. |
